![]() Evan Gregor Evan received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he received awards for both performance and composition (his major.) While studying as an electric bass principle with Oscar Stagnaro, he represented the school at several notable jazz festivals and performed with various visiting artists- most notably Gary Burton’s retirement concert as a quartet with guitarist Pat Metheny. Teachers included Ian Froman, Hal Crook, Phil Wilson, Herb Pomeroy, Dave Samuels, Greg Hopkins and many others. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2003, and received an M.A from William Paterson University on acoustic bass, studying with Steve LaSpina, Mulgrew Miller and Armen Donelian. Artists including Gary Burton, Dave Liebman, Christian Scott, Phil Woods, Bill Goodwin, Pete McCann, Phil Wilson, Bob Dorough, Urbie Green, Christian Howes and others have hired Evan as a sideman, and he has performed professionally in Denmark, Japan, Holland, London, Spain, Slovakia, and across Canada in many major festivals with a variety of artists. He has been working regularly with legendary alto-saxophonist Phil Woods' big band (as well as a recent quartet performance at the Deerhead Inn,) as well as with teenage saxophone prodigy Grace Kelly. A performance with multi Grammy nominee Christian Scott has recently been airing nationally on PBS. Evan also teaches and coordinates ensembles for CampJazz in Delaware Water Gap, PA, and recently released "From Student to Jazz Artist" - a unique 3+ hour interview/discussion with David Liebman on developing as a young artist, available through Advance Music. He currently resides in New York City.
