FAQs

When should I apply?
The deadline for application is June 15, 2010

I live out of town and want to come - do you provide overnight accommodations?
Housing is available at East Stroudsburg University for CampJazz students. The cost for room and board (breakfast and dinner included) is $395.00.
We have the third floor of the university apartments. 4 apartments - 2 male, 2 female - 3 bedrooms each apartment double occupancy. There will be a responsible chaperone for the floor. We will match age groups.
Since the other floors will be students of David Liebman's saxophone Master class - there will be plenty of music floating through the building that week. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION

What ages may apply?
We are really open to all that want to be a part of this experience. We like to say from 13 to 113.

I'd like to come but my parents don't have the money - what can I do?
Contact us - and have your strongest case prepared - letters from band directors, hot mp3 file, tax stuff, unabashed pleading, etc. We have some limited scholarship help available.

We have a band and would like to come as a group - is that possible?
Again contact us - send a demo - you just might find out that you learn more by playing with people that you don't know. Maybe - Maybe not - we'll work with you.

Is sending a demo necessary?
Well - sending a demo helps us to figure out placement in an ensemble. We're really anxious to get the ensembles playing as soon as possible - so we'd rather have ensembles set for Monday morning rather than spend that valuable time in the world of assessments.

What about lunch?
Lunch hour will be at the Deer Head Inn. We strongly urge you to pack a lunch. We do not provide food. Beverages will be available for purchase. If you are staying at ESU, breakfast and dinner will be in the student dining hall. We will provide lunch.

What should my child bring if they are staying over at ESU?
Sheets, blankets, towels, and snacks and drinks for the evenings are recommended

What meals will be covered for my child if they are an overnight camper?
Breakfast and Dinner are served in the ESU cafeteria for the kids and lunches will be provided by the volunteers on the other days.

Will my child need money?
It is suggested that they have some money as they do go places some evenings with the chaperones that might require money. Thursday nights are jazz jam night at the Deer Head Inn(a local jazz legendary) and the kids usually want to go and sit in. They are chaperoned the entire evening and will only go with parental consent.

Should my child bring anything other than their instrument?
If they are an acoustic player, then no. Manuscript books, pencils, and any other supplies they may need are provided. If they have an amp it is suggested that they bring that as we don't have that many. If your child is a drummer, there will be a drum set but most drummers prefer to bring their own set or at minimum cymbals.

When will the concert be held and when should I pick them up on Sunday?

On Sunday there will be a picnic for kids and family(bring a covered dish) from 4-5:30 and then there will be a student concert from 6-7:30 at the gazebo at the Church of the Mountain(public encouraged to come). After the concert the kids are able to go home.

Will we know a schedule of the week?

On the first day of camp, the campers will receive a full schedule for the week with all times and locations and also their ensemble assignments.
